On The Road to Kentucky
This month, boxes have started appearing in neat stacks, chairs are folded and wrapped carefully, glassware is packed away between layers of protective cloth, and somewhere nearby, a truck waits patiently to be loaded for the journey ahead.
Trade shows have always been an important part of the Field Traditions calendar, but they’re about far more than simply bringing products to a new location. They’re an opportunity to step outside the workshop, meet the people who share our love of the sporting life, and spend time among a community that values tradition, craftsmanship, and time spent outdoors.
Next week, that journey takes us to Lexington, Kentucky, for one of the most celebrated events in the equestrian calendar, the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event.
The Journey Begins
Preparing for an event like Kentucky starts long before the truck leaves the driveway. There’s inventory to check, pieces to carefully wrap, and a stand to plan so that everything arrives ready to create the right atmosphere. Every item has its place. Every box has its purpose.
Some of our largest pieces, from field furniture to handcrafted bars, require careful packing and a little extra planning to make sure they travel safely. The goal is always the same: when visitors step onto the stand, it should feel less like a display and more like stepping into the world of Field Traditions.
There’s something special about those early mornings before departure. Coffee in hand, the truck slowly filling with carefully packed crates and furniture, the anticipation of a long road ahead. These moments are part of the rhythm of preparing for events, and they remind us why we enjoy travelling to them so much.
Because once the road begins, the real purpose of the journey starts to come into focus.
Bringing the Sporting Life With Us
When we arrive at an event like Kentucky, we want our stand to feel like a natural extension of the sporting life. That means creating a space where visitors can see how pieces come together, not just as individual products, but as part of a wider experience of time spent outdoors.
Our Savannah Chair and other pieces from the Field Furniture Collection often become the centre of that setup. Designed for comfort and durability in the field, these pieces reflect the traditions of outdoor living that inspired Field Traditions in the first place.
Nearby, our handcrafted Field Bars offer another glimpse into the rituals that follow a day outdoors. Whether it’s a quiet drink beside the truck after a hunt or a gathering among friends at camp, these pieces bring a sense of occasion to the simplest moments.
And of course, no proper setup would be complete without a few pieces from our Barware Collection, whiskey glasses designed to celebrate the traditions that often mark the end of a day well spent outside.
Together, these pieces create a space that feels familiar to those who live the sporting life. A place to pause, sit for a moment, and imagine the setting where these traditions come alive.

The Atmosphere of Kentucky
The Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event is widely considered one of the most prestigious equestrian competitions in the world. Each year, riders and horses travel from across the globe to compete in this remarkable showcase of skill, endurance, and partnership. Over the course of the event, spectators gather to watch dressage, cross-country, and show jumping unfold across the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park.
But the event is about far more than competition alone. For many attendees, the Kentucky Three-Day Event has become a spring tradition, a weekend spent outdoors among friends, horses, and a shared appreciation for the countryside lifestyle.
Walking through the grounds, you’ll see everything from world-class equestrian sport to families enjoying picnics beneath the trees. Conversations drift easily between riders, spectators, and visitors exploring the many stands that line the event.
It’s exactly the kind of environment where Field Traditions feels at home. The audience at Kentucky shares many of the same values that shape our work, a respect for heritage craftsmanship, a love of time spent outdoors, and an appreciation for the small rituals that define the sporting life.
What Visitors Can Expect
For those attending the event this year, the Field Traditions stand will offer a chance to experience many of our pieces in person. There’s something uniquely satisfying about seeing these items outside the context of a website, feeling the craftsmanship of a chair, opening a field bar, or holding one of our whiskey glasses in hand.
Michael and Gina will also be there throughout the event, welcoming visitors and sharing the stories behind the brand and its collection.
Events like Kentucky are always a highlight for us because they allow us to meet the people who bring these traditions to life in their own way; whether through hunting, equestrian sport, or simply spending time outdoors with family and friends.
If you’re attending the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event, we’d be delighted for you to stop by and say hello.
