Field Suppers: Seasonal Pairings for September

Field Suppers: Seasonal Pairings for September

Every hunt ends at the table. September sits at that perfect in-between - warm enough for outdoor suppers, cool enough to light the first fire of the season. Whether it’s the first birds of dove season or simply an excuse to gather friends, the ritual of sharing food and drink is where the stories last.

At Field Traditions, we believe the way you serve is as important as what you serve. Here are a few of our favourite September pairings - simple, seasonal ideas that bring the sporting life to the table.

1. Dove Skewers & Bourbon Neat

Fresh from the field, dove is best kept simple. Marinate with olive oil, rosemary, and lemon, then grill quickly over coals. Pair with bourbon neat in etched glassware for a timeless combination that speaks of the South.

Serve on enamelware plates at a long outdoor table, letting the smoke and stories linger as the evening cools.

2. Grilled Game & Autumn Reds

For those first cool nights, nothing beats game on the fire - whether dove, quail, or venison. Keep it rustic: salt, pepper, a touch of garlic. Pair with a rich red wine, poured into our “Long Live the Hunt” glasses.

Add enamelware bowls of roasted root vegetables and bread to the table, and you have a supper that feels both simple and celebratory.

3. Cheese & Cigars

Not every September evening needs a full meal. A board of autumn cheeses, figs, and nuts paired with a glass of port is enough when shared in good company. End the night with a cigar by the fire, using our new ashtrays designed for evenings that stretch long into conversation.

Field suppers are about more than food - they’re about pausing after the hunt, bringing people together, and honouring the rhythm of the season. September’s pairings are simple, but they carry the essence of what this life is all about: sport, tradition, and camaraderie.
