A Mississippi Adventure: Honouring Tradition, Conservation, and the Gentleman’s Gundog
Our recent journey to the Mississippi Double Gun event wasn’t just a trip; it was an immersion into a world where tradition, camaraderie, and conservation intertwine. Set against the backdrop of Mississippi’s iconic red clay hills and its welcoming Southern culture, the event celebrated everything we hold dear at Field Traditions—from the sporting lifestyle to our commitment to preserving the land.
The Gentleman’s Gundog: A Tribute to Wildrose Labradors
At the heart of the Mississippi Double Gun event was the presence of Wildrose Labradors, known as the “Gentleman’s Gundog.” These remarkable dogs, bred and trained with precision and purpose, exemplify the best of both field performance and companionship. Wildrose Kennels, led by Mike Stewart, has earned its place as one of America’s premier breeding and training facilities, focusing on producing Labradors that embody calmness, natural game-finding abilities, and an unbreakable bond with their handlers.
Founded on the principles of non-force training and positive reinforcement—now known as “The Wildrose Way”—Wildrose Kennels has been shaping Labradors into versatile sporting dogs for over 50 years. From upland hunting to waterfowl retrieval, these dogs bring unmatched skills to the field, making them perfect ambassadors for ethical hunting practices and conservation. Our time with these incredible dogs reinforced the role working dogs play in fostering a love and respect for the outdoors.
Connecting Through Shared Passions and Conservation
The event brought together a community of hunters, conservationists, and dog enthusiasts, all united by a commitment to protecting the landscapes and wildlife that sustain our way of life. Many participants, like the Wildrose community, actively support conservation efforts through organisations such as Ducks Unlimited, TRCP, Pheasants Forever, and Quail Forever. Being part of a group so dedicated to sustainable hunting practices and preserving natural habitats was both humbling and inspiring.
Mississippi’s vibrant hunting culture and scenic landscapes—especially its renowned flyways—serve as a reminder of why these efforts matter. The region’s dedication to habitat preservation ensures that future generations will continue to experience the thrill of field sports in places as beautiful and rich in biodiversity as Mississippi.
Moments of Camaraderie and Celebration
Beyond the field trials, one of the most memorable aspects of the trip was the sense of connection. We shared stories, toasted to a successful day, and enjoyed the Southern hospitality that makes Mississippi feel like home. Handlers and dogs alike fostered a community spirit, bonding over a shared love for tradition and the outdoors. It’s gatherings like these that strengthen our dedication to Field Traditions’ mission.
Field Traditions Essentials: Gear for Every Adventure
No adventure would be complete without the right gear, and our Field Traditions pieces proved essential throughout the event. Our Okavango Shotgun Shell Pouch provided easy access to cartridges during the trials, while the Field Traditions Blaze Logo Cap ensured comfort and visibility in the field. And after a day’s work, our Field Bar brought a touch of sophistication to the evening gatherings—a fitting end to each day in true Field Traditions style.
Looking Forward: A Commitment to Conservation and Tradition
Our experience at the Mississippi Double Gun event reinforced the values that define Field Traditions. The connection between hunting, conservation, and community is integral to our brand, and this trip deepened our commitment to these ideals. As we look to the future, we’re excited to continue fostering a community that honours tradition, respects the land, and celebrates the sporting lifestyle.
Long live the hunt, and may we continue to protect the lands that make it all possible.
