A Fireside Feast: Holiday Hosting with Field Traditions

A Fireside Feast: Holiday Hosting with Field Traditions

There’s something undeniably comforting about cooking and gathering around a fire.

In December, when the days shorten and the evenings glow a little softer, fireside meals become something worth lingering over.

This year, we’re celebrating holiday hosting with the same spirit that guides our brand: heritage, craftsmanship, and simple, honest moments with good people.

We’ve long admired the work of Sea Island Forge, not just for the beauty of their kettles, but for the way they bring people together.

Michael shared recently, “There’s nothing quite like cooking outdoors in winter. The cold on your face, the warmth of the fire, it just feels right.”

Whether it’s searing quail, warming wine, or slow-cooking something rich and hearty, a fireside meal feels like a return to something older, simpler, and deeply satisfying.

Hosting doesn’t need fuss or complication.

A good table, even if it’s the tailgate of your truck or a blanket on the floor, needs only a few things:

  • solid, well-made barware
  • natural textures
  • warmth from fire or candlelight
  • a dish prepared from good ingredients
  • people worth slowing down for

It’s all about the details: the weight of a whiskey glass, the grain of leather on a coaster, the warmth of a tartan blanket under the tree.

Our Hosting Essentials

Try Michael’s Quail Egg Tapa

One of our favorite holiday small plates, cooked over flame and paired with the crisp, vibrant Passalacqua Quail Forever Fiano. A perfect blend of field and fire, simplicity and richness. For the full recipe, read the Field Notes entry.

Hosting doesn’t need extravagance; it needs intention. Good food, good wine, and a fire to gather around - that’s the heart of it.
